A Kodama's outer appearance is very much like an ordinary tree, but if one attempts to cut it down, one would become cursed and it is thus considered to have some kind of mysterious supernatural power. When an old tree, that is inhabited by Kodama, are cut, blood could come forth from them. If a prayer to Kiinushii is not said, the person cutting the tree will be terrorized by the Kodama for the rest of their life.
